Wired Alarm
Wired Alarm
My Security system has a recurring false alarm from the wired motion detectors. What might be causing it?

Have Outdoor PIR ones now installed, should I replace them with microwaves?

If you refer to a PIR lamp as a security system outside your house than there is not much you can do. They do not respond on insects, but a bird or bat will trigger them easily. Do not change them with microwave detectors as they are a lot more sensitive and will give alarm at any moving object (leafs on tree, spider etc).

What you could do is limit the sight of the sensor by covering the lens with duct-tape allowing you to specify the required area.

If it would have been a PIR sensor for an Alarm System inside your home and the false alarm happened from one day onto another I would measure the NC (normally closed wire = alarm output in sensor) and the tamper wire (should be normally closed)

Good luck, I hope this helped you in the right direction.

Home Security Solutions for Wired and Tech-Savvy Homes

Technology has been growing by leaps and bounds in all areas, and many of its advancements have really helped out daily life. After all, it’s now possible to get driving directions through a GPS device attached to a satellite–or something as simple as a cell phone. Smart phones allow for a number of different applications to make life easier, from checking movie times while riding the subway to finding out via Twitter if there are any traffic back-ups on your route to work. It seems like electronics have worked their way into most facets of life, even for those who aren’t tech-savvy.

While a lot of wired devices are for people on the go, just as many are for use within the home environment. A number of refrigerators now come with televisions built into the door, or televisions that can pop out of the island in the center of the kitchen. And unlike the Home Alarm Systems of yesteryear, that might have only alerted police and fire departments while emitting loud noises, the new systems do a whole lot more.

Far more than a traditional burglar alarm, the new wired alarm does a lot more than simply sound an alarm. It’s possible to invest in a system that will sense not just motion, but also glass breaking or any sort of stress on the staircase. In addition to the threat from burglars, there’s also the danger of other mishaps around the house, and these new systems can catch those, too. Alarms and detectors can sense the presence of too much carbon monoxide, propane gas, and natural gas.

The new home alarm systems also allow for greater ease of specific programming. It’s possible to deactivate the home invasion feature while in the house, but keep on all of the other sensors in case of a fire or gas leak during the night. Additionally, low and high temperature sensors can help avoid heater failures in the middle of winter or potential fire hazards.

High tech home alarm systems aren’t just about inanimate objects, though. Families with children, especially those who are at work when their children are returning home, can invest in a system that will provide surveillance of when The Alarm is armed or disarmed. If your child is supposed to be home from school by five and the alarm still hasn’t been deactivated at seven, it’s possible to know and take the appropriate steps to making sure that he or she is safe and secure.

While many homeowners who are quick to invest in state-of-the-art pool lighting systems or expensive laptops may have hesitations about throwing the same kind of cash into bringing their alarm system into the 21st century, it’s definitely worth the investment–and the investment is a lot less than people might think. Many businesses have been using this advanced technology for years, meaning that for a regular-sized home, the extra components that ensure a higher level of protection aren’t too much trouble for a trained professional to install. So before you upgrade to that next light-as-air personal computer or throw dough at a slight upgrade of a smart phone, consider instead putting that money towards a new security system. After all, it’s a wise investment.
