Alarm Clock Application
Audio issue! It’s a toughie…?
I want to set the audio from one program (my alarm clock) to play through my speakers, while my headphone/line out is outputting a different application’s audio (a simple mp3 file through WinAmp). I know it is possible, as Skype can ring over your speakers while you have a headset plugged in (even plays a different noise over each). Any ideas?
If it helps, its an Inspiron 1501 with standard SigmaTel audio hardware.
It may be possible to run 2 sound cards.
It seems to me that your best bet would be to add an external soundcard. Otherwise, you could set your winamp to play through front speaker jack and alarm to play through rear speaker jack if you have a surround sound capable system. Either way it will be tricky.
As long as they are entirely different sound cards, or sound cards designed to be grouped together, you should be OK. You or more likely Windows will determine one to be default and the other one will be ignored unless you specify to use it from an application example right click on win amp, select options/preferences/plug ins/output/direct sound output/ and click configure, there you should see all available sound output devices.
As far as patching, you’ll have to prolly hard wire one into the other. I have the SPDIF output of my 8 channel card hard patched to the SPDIF input of my default stereo card. As for making 2 stereo cards into a 4 track config, it ain’t gonna happen. If both cards are the same, they will walk all over each other.
