How to reset a home security system?
My nephew just bought a remodeled home. It was a flip house. This house has a brinks home security system and no codes or manuel was left in the house. Brinks wont help him reset The Alarm unless he signs a 3 yr contract. He doesn’t want to use an outside service, he just wants it to sound if someone breaks in. Anyone know how to reset it?
The codes indicate that the panel can not communicate with Brinks.
There is nothing you can do with that system and it’s not user programmable. All you can do is power down the system and shut the whole thing down.

Why You Should Allow Professionals To Uninstall Your Home Alarm
So, it’s moving time. You are getting ready to head to your new home, but first you must pack up every little thing. If you have a home Alarm System, you probably want to take it with you also. You already spent a great deal of money on it, right? The idea is to strip it out of the old home in order to continue protecting your family in the new home.
Perhaps you are thinking about trying to remove the system on your own. Removing the system yourself isn’t impossible, but it helps to have a pretty sound knowledge about electric circuits. That is, unless you plan on just grabbing a wire and snatching. Obviously, random wire snatching isn’t advisable. Cables and wires must be carefully removed and your power has to be cut off. Don’t forget to let your alarm company know what you are doing because if not, you may have police showing up at your home.
In order for you to have a better idea of what you are getting yourself into, here’s a brief overview of what uninstalling your home security system will entail. After notifying the company, disable the alarm. Then, shut off the power to both the siren and the control panel. You must use a multimeter or another tool to ensure that there is no electricity still flowing. Then, you can uninstall all motion sensors, opening detectors and glass break detectors by removing all nails and screws. Most experts recommend that you not remove any wiring on your own. Just leave them in place, since they can’t do any harm.
As you can see, there’s quite a lot of work to do be done to uninstall your home alarm. You may think that you are saving a little bit of money, but you sure won’t be saving yourself any time. The truth is that with all the electrical risks involved, you’re better off paying a professional to remove your system. Given that there are trained professionals available, why not take advantage of them? Alarm technicians can have the job done much quicker and will salvage more system parts, as well.
Have you thought about just including the system as part of the sale of your house? Realtors will tell you that a security system already installed is a great selling point. The new owners will simply have to call and have the service activated in their name. Not to mention that you, too, would benefit from all the advances in technology that have occurred since you bought your last home security system.
You don’t even have to worry about spending much money. Companies nowadays – in the middle of a price war to attract new customers – are offering the systems for free and installation for almost nothing. All you have to do is sign up for a contract, which shouldn’t be an issue since you’ve used security services in the past. So, leave that old system in your home and take advantage of the latest in security for your new home.
