House Alarm System going off for no reason?/?
I have an Ademco alarm system on my home, I found these numbers on the keypad cover, M6894 and K4576V2. It was already installed when we moved in, so I am not sure how it works. We have had problems with it going off because the backup power supply came unplugged, but lately it has been going off about every 20 hours for no apparent reason. I am not even sure if the systems are connected, but could it be warning me that the Fire Alarm is low on battery? Or are there any other possible solutions? Thanks!
First of all the fire alarm should be connected to the main power supply of The Alarm, and usually have a small 9 volt battery that you can buy anywhere as it’s back up battery in case of power failure. This 9 volt battery should be changed every 12 months regardless as a safety precaution. It may even get it’s backup battery power from the alarm systems backup battery, depending on the system itself. Have this checked out by a professional Alarm technician, it could save your life one day, keep it in tip top condition!!!!
Secondly the Alarm back up battery should be changed every three years to keep your alarm in tip top shape for voltage condition and in case of power failure. Any good electronics shop will have one the same as yours in voltage, amps and size. To take it out simply make sure alarm system is off, turn off main power supply to alarm system, open Alarm Box, and disconnect battery. If alarm goes off while disconnecting battery, don’t worry, just continue. It will stop as soon as the battery is disconnected as long as the main supply is off. Installation is a reversal of these instructions, just remember that when you plug in the new battery the alarm might go off, simply continue installing the battery, close the box and it should stop going off. If it doesn’t, simply enter the alarm code and that should turn it off. After all is well, remember to turn on the main power supply to the alarm. The battery should be fully charged within 12- 24 hours. If you see a strange symbol on your Alarm Panel, it is probably telling you that the battery is low on charge. this will go away after battery is fully charged.
Now last but not least, your false alarms are almost certainly from cheap and nasty, or faulty Detectors. Call out an alarm technician and get some decent Detectors installed that are not prone to false alarm. I have found Dual Technology to be the best, (they operate using microwave and passive infrared technology together inside each detector, and both must detect something at exactly the same time before setting off an alarm) these type of detectors are pretty much false alarm free. Make sure he gives you a well known brand like Honeywell or anything equivalent, and that he positions them for maximum detection, and thoroughly tests them before you pay him. The ever 20 hours I’m sure is nothing but coincidence. Your alarm could go off at any time in my opinion.
All the best
Tips for Choosing your Home Alarm System
A home alarm system is one of the best ways to protect your family, home, and belongings. There are many different features and options to choose from when purchasing a home alarm system that can make the decision seem overwhelming. The best way to decide which features are right for your home is to understand the function of each feature and access your home’s need for that particular type of protection.
Many people’s first concern when purchasing a home alarm system is the cost. Most people have a budget and can only allocate so much to the purchase of a home alarm system. Fortunately there are alarm solutions for every budget. You can start with simple contact alarms on doors and windows. These alarms will alert you in the case of forced entry. Later on you can add features to complete your home alarm system. A home alarm system is designed to protect your home from break-ins and burglary. It does this by preventing break-ins with warning signs and stickers and stopping break-ins with a Loud Alarm and a message sent to local monitoring stations. Most of the time a loud alarm is enough to deter would-be burglars, and if not a home alarm system that is monitored will dispatch police as soon as the alarm is triggered.
Most basic Home Alarm Systems installed by what we belive to the best ADT Alarms include a keypad and control panel, contact alarms on your doors and windows, an audible alarm, and a monitoring service. There are many other home alarm system features you can consider for your home and, depending on the alarm package you purchase, they may not cost that much more.
Motion alarms are alarms that detect motion inside your home. They will set off your home alarm system if an intruder breaks in to the home without setting off any contact alarms, such as through a broken window. Contact alarms usually come with the home alarm system and will only trigger the alarm if a door or window is opened when the alarm system is set. You can also purchase an alarm that has both an audible and visual indicator, such as a loud alarm and strobe light. This option is especially important for people who are hearing impaired; plus, it will further help to dissuade an intruder.
You can also choose which type of alarm system is best for you: wired or wireless. Wireless systems do not require any drilling in the wall; they plug directly into the phone jack and communicate wirelessly. Wired home alarm systems require professional instillation and drilling. You can also get window stickers, yard signs, and motion activated lights as a part of your home alarm system.
It may seem overwhelming to pick a home alarm system, having to choose the features that are right for your home. But remember, no matter which system you choose, having a home alarm system, even the most basic one, will help to protect your home and your family. Consider all of the options available to you and pick the one you think your home would benefit from the most. ADT Home Alarms have proven to be the best in class.
