Interconnected Fire alarms vs. Dual Sensor Fire Alarms?
Hi. Today I bought Wireless interconnected Kidde fire alarms for my home. This interconnected alarm uses ionization and only ionization sensor. However, after reading online, experts recommend have a dual sensor smoke detector. The way my house is built, chances are you can hear the downstairs fire alarm upstairs, but I can’t be sure. What do you recommend? Should I keep and install these interconnected fire alarm? Or should I exchange it for a dual sensor fire alarm? Thanks in Advance.
Thanks J.L. It is not possible to get interconnecte dual sensor alarms as they are hard wired and it involves alot of maintenance. By the way, your smoke alarm is an ionization- but a dual sensor adds a photoelectric alarm which is NOT trigerred by cooking smokes so it will not be overly sensitive.
You can get dual sensor interconnected detectors. Many areas require all detectors to be interconnected. All dual sensor means is it detects smoke in two ways. I get smoke/carbon monoxide interconnected detectors. I have never had a dual sensor smoke detector, but the single sensor are too sensitive for me. Cooking sets them off allot, due to small size of tenant’s apartment.
