If property is stolen during a school fire drill, is the school held liable at all?
This just happened to my boyfriend and others today, a calculator, laptop, and wallets were stolen from the classroom. Now during a Fire Alarm students don’t bring their belongings with them outside, in fact I remember being told not to. Therefore, schools should have some way to protect those, I would say simply by locking the doors! This obviously didn’t happen, and the school is saying they are not at fault. Is this correct?
No, they can be held liable, under Administrative Procedures, the school Fire Drill Procedures state: bla bla bla bla.
You will need a copy of this Fire Drill, stating in effect, to leave everything behind, when a Fire Drill takes place. Of course they will deny it, saying that is stupid.
