I think we only have about 4-5 companies in Toronto, ADT, Brinks, API, Intercon, Intertec, Alarmforce.
Everyone else in the phone book will set you up with “them,” and bill you, but they outsource the actual montitoring to one of the ones mentioned above.
Is it “worth it?” Residential, maybe, you’ll get the home insurance discount, and you’ll get the “peace of mind,” if you can afford full service.
Commercial/Industrial, I think it’s mandatory for insurance, but anyways, again properly utilized, its 90% effective, fire, theft, emergencies, poorly(Economically) setup it’s a waste of money.
Who would I recommend, any company that will let you set it up the way you want to be montitored, and that consults you on the package. We had people get robbed, homes burn, because their contract stated by the dealers, “no 911 services to be dispatched until dealer notified” needless to say at 2am no dealers would pick up and we were left telling the clients, “your home could be burning, or being robbed, if you want pd, fd, you’ll have to call 911 on your own,” The dealers that will dispatch pd for any alarm will cost you $80/call, and 3 strikes and your out, so make sure the Alarm System is setup properly.
