Does anyone know anything about the circuitry of Digital Alarm clocks?
Your question is a little bit vague…
On a larger level there should be a timing sub circuit which controls the clock it self. Time is usually kept by an incrementing pulse counter. Either the 60 Hz AC or a quartz device creates a pulse on a consistant basis. There are counters for the HH:MM:SS. For example the seconds increment and once they reach 60 it triggers the pulse counter chip for the minutes and resets the seconds counter.
As far as The Alarm part there would be a comparator function. The clock stores the alarm time and when the incrementor gets matches the alarm time then it probably triggers a relay that enables the sound. The snooze button probably increments the comparision time and repeats the process.
As far as displaying the time, the binary representation of the time is fed to another sub circuit which tells which part of the LCD clock face to light up.
All that being said, they can program all that functionality onto an all encompassing chip. A digital Alarm Clock would be fairly easy to program on a microcontroller like a Motorola HC6811. Something like that could be done by a Sophomore or Junior Electrical Engineering student.

When we need to wake up in the mornings we like to use an alarm clock. These clocks are not new inventions, in fact there has always been some sort of alarm clock that people have used. Today you can find a great many types of Alarm Clocks. These alarm clocks range from the old fashioned to the new style clocks.
As today’s lifestyles are very hectic for many of us we need to find an alarm clock that is appropriate for our lives. For instance you can buy one of the old fashioned alarm clocks where you have to set the alarm and then wind the alarm button for it to ring. Now I am sure that many of you have heard these types of alarm clocks. These alarm clocks have a harsh sounding buzzing noise that it specifically designed to wake you from a sound sleep.
You can find other types of alarm clocks in the market today. While these come in many different shapes and forms they all have the same propose. As technology is an intricate part of our lives you will find that most of the alarm clocks feature electronic sounds. There is a Talking Alarm clock that will inform you of the time when you press a button. This same alarm clock however mimics the sound of a rooster when the alarm rings. Now you can make the Alarm Sound loud or soft depending on your morning preferences.
Regardless of the noise level, the sound of a rooster crowing is enough to jolt you out of bed and scrambling to shut the alarm off – or at the very least murder the silly alarm clock. One category will have a digital display panel where you can easily see the time in the morning hours. In the night time you will need to press a button to be informed of the time. In the other category you can easily see the time both during the day and the night.
I personally would love to have a musical alarm clock where I just have to look at the panel in order to find out the time. However as there are many different types of alarm clocks in stores around the world sometimes you can find the exact clock that you are looking for. At other times you may succumb to temptation and buy a Homer Simpson type of talking alarm clock.
