Battery Powered Alarm Clocks – Taking a Closer Look at LCD and Led Alarm Clocks
Battery Alarm clocks in the market come in various shapes and sizes, but they perform only one purpose even if there are additional features. The clock’s main purpose is to wake you up on the time you programmed. In this article, we will take a look at solid display clocks like LCD and LED alarm clocks.
Most of alarm clocks I encounter nowadays are endowed with electronic capabilities and even natural sounds. I even find a Talking Alarm clock informing you of the time if you press one of its buttons. Others would even feature a natural sound of the wind with The Alarm. O all these features, the best improvement I find with the newer clocks in particular is that they are quieter now. This is due to the development and implementation of solid state movement that is perfectly noiseless, eliminating that seemingly endless tic-tac sound. With the plenty of varieties of battery powered alarm clock that are available in the market, you have now lots of available options before deciding on shopping.
With our options nowadays, I would like to take a closer look at LCD and LED battery alarm clocks as they are gaining more popularity these days. LCD and LED clocks are known for their solid state display.
LCD stands for liquid crystal display. LCD displays are very economical in terms of power consumption. The only time this clock uses significant power is when the backlights are turned on. However, you cannot see the LCD display without a light source so it needs power when in the dark.
LED, on the other hand, stands for light emitting diode. They usually come in bright red or green or amber colors and this type of battery powered alarm clocks usually must be plugged in because LED clocks require more power to be fully functional.
With the awareness for global energy efficiency however, even battery alarm clocks are not spared from the issue especially the LCD and LED clocks. In such a case, the LCD wins the game with a more economical energy requirement. Looking at the future, there are even innovations nowadays that might eliminate the need to replace batteries and we expect them to be present in the mainstream market in the near future.
One main precaution with solid state display clocks like LED and LCD is that if your alarm clock has red digits on it; replace the alarm clock as soon as possible. Green digits are recommended as a replacement. This is because of the reason that red digits send out harmful radiation. The red lights are found to radiate through walls, ceilings, and floors. Over time, radiation from these red lights can have a harmful effect on our health.
